Do you notice your cat running around and jumping all over the house uncontrollably during the night or early morning? Don’t worry—there’s a scientific explanation! Keep reading this #LivelongTip:
Cats are crepuscular animals, meaning their peak activity times are usually early in the morning and late in the afternoon. However, they can adapt their routines based on their owners’ lifestyles, so it’s common for many cats to become more active at night, especially when their owners are asleep.
This is especially frequent in summer. When daytime temperatures rise significantly, cats tend to rest in cool places and wait until nightfall to play, hunt, or go for walks around the neighborhood.
If your indoor-only cat doesn’t have toys or environmental stimuli, doesn’t interact with other cats, or is simply young and has spent the day sleeping, it’s very likely they’ll release all that accumulated energy at night—running around wildly or trying to play with you, nibbling on your feet while you sleep.
However, if your cat suddenly goes crazy at night without prior warning, observe for possible health issues and consult a veterinarian if needed.
